HOW TO RECOGNIZE A HAND-MADE CARPET?
The convenient  use and  complexity of workmanship of this precious merchandise have left no copier indifferent.

The are, in fact, two kinds of  copy :
* A  Bukhara, Naïn or Goum pattern,  hand-woven in India or China and very difficult to differentiate.
* A  Bakhtiar, or Gabbeh pattern,  machine-woven  in Belgium, Italy or France.
It is increasingly difficult to distinguish  between an authentic carpet and a fake, and these imitations are much more  numerous than authentic carpets.

IN SOME CASES THE ORIENTAL CARPETS ARE RECONGNIZABLE: * The borders are hand-stitched. * The fringes are in continuity with the warp yarns. * The thickness of the warp and weft yarns is unequal. * The Persian carpet is one of the all-time  most copied objects in the world. The Bukhara pattern wins hands down.
